Business Analyst/Documentation Specialist

SBD is seeking a motivated Business Analyst/Documentation Specialist to join an exciting modernization project for our client working in a fast-paced and forward-thinking agile environment. The project team will be responsible for developing and supporting a custom developed web-enabled system. This includes the user story development, design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance of new functionalities as well as enhancements to existing ones.
 
The BA/Documentation Specialist will be the conduit in the performance of activities related to analyzing, authoring, approval, and version control of essential documents supporting the program operations and delivery. The qualified candidate will jointly support project teams in analyzing and documenting full understanding of business goals, business context, and business processes. This will also include working in partnership with Sr. and Technical personnel on the team to document architecture and business processes. With the keen ability to have a “big picture” understanding of the program, the BA/Documentation Specialist analyzes and drawn on their expertise to provide recommendations for process or standards improvement outside the system itself, for the overall program.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Defines and documents customer business functions and processes.
  • Coordinate document edit/approval processes to obtain stakeholder input and approval, including obtaining external customer approvals.
  • Tracks and fully document changes for functional and business specifications documents/workflows
  • Consults with users and client to identify, define and document business needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, and levels of systems access.
  • Acts as a liaison between end-users, Agile development teams
  • Analyzes the feasibility of, and develops requirements for, new systems and enhancements to existing systems; ensures the system design fits the needs of the users.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving business processes through information systems and/or non-system driver changes.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts business process definition and/or reengineering/improvement projects
  • Manages workload to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy
  • Recommend solutions that should be developed in consultation with impacted internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists in developing an overall change management strategy through software development lifecycle
  • Participates in user acceptance testing and testing of new system functionality.
  • Provides technical assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching professional and technical staff.
  • Provides work direction to one or more technical or clerical staff or acts as a team lead on designated projects or assignments
  • Follows program and corporate CMMI and ISO SOPs, policies, written, and verbal instruction in execution of daily activities

Skills/Qualifications (Required):

  • To be considered for this role, candidates must have:
    • 5+ years’ experience in business analysis and requirements definition
    • 2+ years’ experience in Agile delivery
  • Hands-on operational experience serving as the BA/Documentation Specialist on a large, complex IT system.
    Working knowledge of Agile delivery processes (e.g., Scrum, KANBAN, JIRA, etc.).  Understanding of methods and techniques for Agile Delivery.
    Candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communications skills including the ability to participate in persuasive discourse with customers and the ability to produce compelling documentation of solutions that is easily understood by non-technical reviewers.
  • Demonstrated success in building meaningful and productive relationships with senior managers, peers, and customers is also required.
  • Prior experience supporting Federal agencies or commercial entities with a rapid and forward thinking Agile process.
  • Must be a US Citizen able to pass a DoD-specific Public Trust background investigation
  • Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, information technology, or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be able to travel up to 40% within the continental US
