The Proposal Writer produces professionally written proposal content that clearly articulates SBD’s value proposition.  This role coordinates with the capture team to integrate win strategy and solution into a proposal structured for compliance with proposal requirements and ease of evaluation.

Responsibilities:
  • Interview technical resources and subject matter experts to harvest technical concepts, ideas and input
  • Create / develop new technical content with input from technical team
  • Prepare and write proposal documentation that is clear, compelling, and grammatically correct
  • Assist the Bid / Proposal manager in developing a proposal structure
  • Cross references the proposal outline to the solicitation requirements and tracks responsiveness to all requirements
  • Identify and re-work existing pre-written content where relevant
  • Re-write / edit proposal responses from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, technical / product teams, finance, commercial, legal and delivery
  • Ensures that review comments are incorporated into the proposal
  • Ensures that proposal files and associated documents are properly maintained in proposal team site
  • Deliver completed written proposal responses to the Proposal Manager against agreed RFP deadlines, escalating issues as required
  • Participates in the development and review of proposal strategies and themes
  • Creates the compliance matrix and proposal outline, based on proposal preparation instructions and evaluation criteria, and uses it to track progress and compliance
  • Lead storyboard sessions with bid / proposal team members and key stakeholders
  • Aligns schedule and writing activities with proposal review plan (e.g., Pink Team, Red Team, Gold Team), along with the review team lead, for interim and final reviews of all proposal volumes
  • Present new proposal content to the Proposal Manager for potential re-use
  • Proactively cultivate internal network of subject matter experts
  • Strong time management / prioritization skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
 

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical proposal writing experience
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of the Federal acquisition process and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Produce content in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in all facets of proposal development
  • Review, analyze, and interpret RFPs and related documentation
  • Deliver 100% compliant, compelling proposals on-time
  • Thrive in a highly interactive team environment
  • Work well under pressure with the ability to simultaneously deliver on multiple tasks and/or priorities
  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and SharePoint
  • Very strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are important as well as high quality work, attention to detail, and the ability to get work done on time
  • Must be familiar with the Shipley Proposal Process and have a full understanding of what is meant by “Section C, Section L, and Section M’
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Business, or related field is required
  • This position will be based out of our HQ in Vienna, VA.  Additionally, must be able to attend onsite meetings in Fairfax, VA and Baltimore, MD offices as needed
  • US Citizenship is required
