Solutions By Design II, LLC (SBD) is seeking an Application Operations Lead to join our team.  The Application Operations (AO) Lead manages system operations of large scale, cloud-based application across a complex network infrastructure and a variety of hardware and software platforms. Using an assortment of tools and methods, the Application Operations Lead shall proactively analyze, monitor and ensure system resources are used in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Ensure production availability and processing schedules are met according to the service level agreements (SLAs) stated in the statement of work (SOW).   The AO lead provides users with application output and the ability to provide ad hoc business requests such as data reports, screening reports, cross-system data analyses and inquiries within a timely manner without compromising services. The AO Lead will coordinate operations supporting the application infrastructure, Service Desk Support, and end users and communications.
As part of our Agile team, the AO Lead provides operational support to DevOps teams and helps to instrument improvements to automation and monitoring to reduce manual O&M (toil) and improve performance and productivity. This includes participation establishing a development operations (DevOps) environment. This role includes responsibility for code deployment management, including organization with other government contractors to schedule releases/deployments in accordance with agency guidelines.  Ultimately, you should be able to ensure all aspects of the system (including the database) run effectively, efficiently, and securely on a 24/7 basis.
 
Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Assists with developing solution for application virtualization and enterprise monitoring tool strategy and plan
  • Manages computer and application operations of large scale, web application across complex network infrastructure and variety of hardware (HW) and software (SW) platforms
  • Facilitate deployments of product, liaising between Agile teams, AWS contractor, and CMS change control board
  • Implements various tools and methods, proactively analyzes, monitors, and confirms computer system resources usage efficiently and cost effectively
  • Confirms production availability and processing schedules meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Coordinates operations staff supporting application infrastructure
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve stable, reliable and effective deployment processes aligned with government SLAs.
  • Establish and maintain system performance metrics reported to the team and to the government.
  • Effective management of notification and escalation during outages and close collaboration with key stakeholders and other teams, as appropriate
 
Skills/Qualifications (Required):
 
  • To be considered for this role, candidates must have:
    • 7+ years progressively increasing experience in software development
    • 3+ years experience managing applications and related deployment processes. Preferred specific experience with Maven/Archiva and GitHub.
    • Manages multiple/frequent production level releases and supports operations of large-scale system or complex environment.
    • Conducts technical analysis of all systems, framework, architecture, disaster recovery, business continuity, and delivered gap analysis on projects
    • 3+ years experience in Cloud environment with application virtualization
    • Specific experience in the planning, provisioning and administration of AWS infrastructure supporting 1 or more custom application(s)
    • 2+ years experience in Agile delivery environment
    • 1+ years experience with DevOps and continuous integration with exposure to tools such as Jenkins and Archiva
    • Knowledge and experience of Configuration Management as it relates to application environment configuration. Preferred experience with utilization of industry standard tool such as Chef.
  • In-depth understanding of industry standards for data management (e.g. permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)
  • Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications
  • Hands on experience with SQL and development of stored procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and organization skills
  • An ability to understand front-end user requirements and a problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working on a large team (50+)
  • Working with a CMS project and familiarity with CMS deployment processes
  • System modernization project experience
